Understanding the License Request Process

An application for a legal agreement with Microsoft can be requested by emailing ipla@microsoft.com. Request the form for a 'License Agreement' and the IPLA will provide it to you with instructions. You should provide the full legal name of the company you would like to sign the license as well as physical mailing addresses for postal documents in required. Upon completion of the online form, the following steps will then be taken:

Upon your email response approving the draft, IPLA will finalize your agreement and route it internally through Microsoft’s approval process. IPLA will then Email you instructions for electronically signing your final agreement but include instructions for you to manually print, sign, and return if you do not want to electronically sign. 3 Business Days
Upon receipt of your signed agreement, Microsoft will counter-sign your agreement and send you an email indicating that your agreement has been executed. This email will include instructions on how to log in to the IP Licensing Portal where you will find instructions to access your invoice via the Digital Operations Center (DOC), submit royalty reports and certificate requests. (Not all agreements have fees or reporting requirements) 5 Business Days
